Abstract
Abstract The instant invention relates to a novel method for preparing novel multimetallic catalysts which comprises contacting a catalyst comprising a first metal with a solution of a second metal, said second metal is selected to be lower in the electrochemical series than said first metal and the contacting conditions are adjusted so that a portion of said first metal is displaced by said second metal. This novel technique is believed to form catalysts characterized as containing surface alloys or multimetallic clusters of said first and second metals. The first metal may be present as a supported metal or alternatively may be a metallic powder.
