Abstract
Abstract A polyolefin micro-flake aggregation which is easily micro-flakable from the aggregation into a plurality of irregularly shaped micro-flakes suitable for producing synthetic paper, is manufactured from a solution of 5 - 40% by weight of polyolefin such as polyethylene and polypropylene in a solvent such as hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons in the presence of a surface active compound of at least 0.01% based on the weight of the polyolefin by spraying the solution which is at a temperature of at least 100 DEG C from a closed container into atmosphere through an orifice.

Independent Claim
163 words
A process for manufacturing a paper-like synthetic sheet, comprising a. separating at a temperature of not higher than 60° C, a polyolefin micro-flake aggregate compound of numerous polyolefine microflakes interconnected with each other in random directions and consisting essentially of at least one polyolefin and 0.01 to 15%, based on the weight of said polyolefin, of at least one surface active compound mixed into said polyolefin, each microflake having a substantially flat, irregular shape and an average thickness of 5 to 20 μ, a maximum length of 20 mm and a specific surface area of at least 0.1 m 2 /g, into discrete swollen microflakes in an organic liquid capable of swelling or partially dissolving said polyolefin at a temperature of 60° C or lower, b. at the same time, homogeneously suspending said discrete microflakes into said organic liquid, c. forming said suspended micro-flakes into paper-like sheet form, and d. evaporating said organic liquid from said paper-like sheet formed in said (c) step.
