Abstract

Abstract Thermoplastic copolymers are formed by the interaction of a 4-mercaptophenol and a dihalo-substituted aromatic sulfone of the structure X-phenylene-SO22-phenylene) yX, wherein y is 1 or 2. The latter are typified by 4,4'-dichlorodiphenyl sulfone and 4,4'-bis(4-chlorophenylsulfonyl)biphenyl. The mercoptophenol may have one or two lower alkyl groups ortho to the hydroxyl.
