Cryogenic construction and article therefor

Claim 2

AN ELONGATE INSULATING MEMBER HAVING A GENERALLY RECTANGULAR CROSS-SECTIONAL CONFIGURATION, THE ELEONGATE MEMBER COMPRISING A FIRST OR FACING BODY OF AN INSULATING MATERIAL COMPRISING SYNTHETIC RESINOUS CLOSED CELL THERMOPLASTIC FOAM, THE FACING BODY HAVING AN EXTERNAL SURFACE AND AN INTERNAL SURFACE EXTENDING ACROSS AT LEAST ONE SURFACE OF THE CROSS-SECTIONAL CONFIGURATION AND THE LENGTH OF THE BODY, THE EXTERNAL SURFACE AND THE INTERNAL SURFACE BEING GENERALLY OPPOSITELY DISPOSED TO EACH OTHER, A PLURALITY OF INTERNAL MEMBERS, THE INTERNAL MEMBERS BEING AFFIXED TO THE INTERNAL SURFACE AND EXTENDING GENERALLY THE ENTIRE WIDTH THEREOF, EACH OF THE INTERNAL MEMBERS HAVING A LENGHT GENERALLY COMMENSURATE WITH THE LENGTH OF THE BODY, THE INTERNAL MEMBERS BEING AFFIXED TO THE INTERNAL FACE OF THE FACING MEMBER AND IN ADJACENT RELATIONSHIP TO AT LEAST ONE OTHER INTERNAL MEMBER AND A FIBER REINFORCE MENT AFFIXED TO THE INNER MEMBERS AT A LOCATION REMOTE FROM AND GENERALLY PARALLEL TO THE INTERNA; SURFACE OF THE FACING BODY.

Claim 3

The insulating member of claim 1 wherein a reinforcing scrim is adhered between the internal surface of the facing body and the internal members.

Claim 4

The member of claim 1 having a metal layer adhered to the external surface of the facing body.

Claim 5

The member of claim 3 wherein the metal layer has defined therein a plurality of corrugations extending generally transversely to the major dimension of the body.

Claim 6

THe member of claim 3 wherein a heat activable adhesive is disposed generally adjacent one edge thereof and remote from the facing member.

Claim 7

The member of claim 3 wherein the metal laminate has a fold about 180* along one elongate edge thereof.

Claim 8

An elongate insulating member having a generally rectangular cross-sectional configuration, the member comprising a first or facing body of an insulating material comprising synthetic resinous closed cell thermoplastic foam, the facing body having an external surface and an internal surface extending across at least one surface of the cross-sectional configuration and the length of the body, the external surface and the internal surface being generally oppositely disposed to each other, a metal laminate adhered to the external surface and a reinforcing scrim adhered to the inner surface, a plurality of internal members, the internal members being affixed to the internal surface and extending generally the entire width thereof, each of the internal members having a width generally commensurate with the width of the facing body, the internal members being affixed to the internal face of the facing members and in adjacent relationship to at least one other internal member, a reinforcing scrim adhered to the internal members at a location remote from the internal face of the facing body, the facing body and internal members being of closed cell thermally insulating material.

Claim 9

An elongate insulating member having a generally rectangular cross-sectional configuration, the member comprising a first or facing body of an insulating material comprising synthetic resinous closed cell thermoplastic foam, the facing body having an external surface and an internal surface extending across at least one surface of the cross-sectional configuration and the length of the body, the external surface and the internal surface being generally oppositely disposed to each other, a metal laminate adhered to the external surface and a reinforcing scrim adhered to the inner surface, a plurality of internal members, the internal members being affixed to the internal surface and extending generally the entire width thereof, each of the internal members having a width generally commensurate with the width of the facing body, the internal members being affixed to the internal face of the facing members and in adjacent relationship to at least one other internal member, a reinforcing scrim adhered to the internal members at a location remote from the internal face of the facing body, the facing body and internal members being of closed cell thermally insulating material.
