Abstract

Abstract A demountable structure, for example for forming scaffolding, shelf assemblies or frame assemblies comprises a pair of co-axial spaced connection members with a connection element interposed between the end edges of the connection member. A screw or other means extends between the connection members and clamps the end edges thereof onto the connection element. The connection element is associated with, for example, a shelf or cross-member, and a plurality of connection elements can be collectively interposed between the connection members so as to form a connection for a plurality of concurrent cross-members or the like.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim 135 words
A structural joint comprising a tubular member, an end fitting axially disposed within the tubular member and projecting from one end thereof, concentric arcuate conically shaped grooves defined on opposite sides of the end fitting adjacent the end of the tubular member from which the end fitting projects, a support member disposed at an angle to the tubular member, the end of the support member forming a rim that engages one of the grooves of the end fitting, a cap disposed on the side of the end fitting opposite the support member, said cap having sidewalls that form a rim which engages a groove of the end fitting, and threaded stem means engaging the cap and the support member for forcing said rims against the grooves of the end fitting and thereby stiffening the joint.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 135 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
The structural joint of claim 1, wherein the rims of the cap and the support member are conically shaped to engage said grooves.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 33 words
The structural joint of claim 1, wherein the support member includes a partition extending traversely across the end thereof that engages the end fitting, the partition being engaged by the threaded stem means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
The structural joint of claim 1, wherein the portion of the end fitting that projects from the tubular member forms a chamfered corner.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 28 words
The structural joint of claim 4, further comprising a filler element disposed between the support member and the cap and engaging the chamfered corner of the end fitting.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 56 words
The structural joint of claim 1, further comprising a second tubular meMber similar to the first-mentioned tubular member, a second end fitting engaged by the second tubular member and similar in structure to the first-mentioned tubular member, the second end fitting being disposed between the support member and the cap along with the first-mentioned end fitting.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 160 words
A structural joint comprising a hollow tubular member, an end fitting axially disposed within the tubular member and projecting from one end thereof, the projecting portion of the end fitting forming a chamfered corner and defining concentric arcuate conically shaped grooves on opposite sides thereof, the grooves being adjacent the end of the tubular member from which the end fitting projects, an upstanding support member perpendicular to the tubular member and including a partition disposed transversally across one end thereof the support member including the partition forming converging sidewalls which engage and coact with a groove of the end fitting, a cap disposed on the side of the end fitting opposite the support member the cap including a rim which engages a groove of the end fitting, and a threaded stem means for engaging the cap, end fitting and partition whereby the cap and support member are forced into the conical grooves of the end fitting to stiffen the joint.
Claim 9
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 28 words
The structural joint of claim 7, further comprising a filler element disposed between the support member and the cap and engaging the chamfered corner of the end fitting.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
The structural joint of claim 7, wherein the rim of the cap is formed by diverging sidewalls thereof.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 56 words
The structural joint of claim 7, further comprising a second tubular member similar to the first-mentioned tubular member, a second end fitting engaged by the second tubular member and similar in structure to the first-mentioned tubular member, the second end fitting being disposed between the support member and the cap along with the first-mentioned end fitting.
Claim 13
