Abstract

Abstract A system for adding fluid such as water or other combustion effecting fluid to the intake system of an internal combustion engine to utilize expansion of such fluid into steam by the fuel to increase power and/or to reduce smog-producing exhaust emissions. The fluid is pumped into the intake only during certain engine operating conditions. In one embodiment, a normally closed valve or valves is opened in response to the sensing means to allow fluid flow into the intake system. In another embodiment, a means for receiving the input signals from the sensing means and transmitting a signal to open a normally closed valve in response to the input signals when engine operating conditions are within a certain range allows the fluid to be injected into the intake system. A novel means for dispersing the injected fluid in the intake system is also disclosed.
