Abstract

Abstract An acceleration control system for electrically propelled traction vehicles wherein a traction motor signal varying with torque, such as armature current, is compared with a reference control signal to maintain desired acceleration levels. One of the signals is coupled to the comparison circuit through a resistance network including a potentiometer whose arm setting is maintained proportional to the actual loaded weight of the vehicle by an air pressure transducer system. In propulsion systems where plural resistances in the motor circuit are sequentially shunted, the comparison circuit has a two state, i.e. bi-level, output. One state permits commutation of the resistances and the other inhibits commutation. Jerk control may be obtained by coupling the one signal to a clamped ramp circuit. The ramp output and the one signal are compared to provide another two state output, so that commutation of the resistances is additionally inhibited when there is an excessive rate of change of acceleration.
