Abstract

Abstract Acid-dyeable polyester fibers or filaments which are characterized by the presence of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine terminal groups on some of the polyester molecules. The modified polyester may be formed by reacting a linear terephthalate polyester with a tetramethyl piperidine compound which has an ester-forming substituent attached at the 1 position or 4 position of the tetramethyl piperdine ring, e.g., 1-(2hydroxyethyl)-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine or 2,2,6,6tetramethyl-4-hydroxypiperidine.
