Abstract
Abstract Process for forming a sintered ceramic structure having improved properties. After precompaction of finely divided particulate material to form a sinterable green structure, the green structure is heated until the onset of shrinkage. Sintering is then carried out in at least three sequential steps during which density increase is attained at decreasing rates, the rates of all but the last step being linear and that of the last step being continually decreasing. In the case of alumina, the resulting ceramic has a very uniform, fine grain structure.
