Abstract
Abstract This invention is concerned with detergent compositions containing colloidal silica to enhance their cleaning and soil removal ability. The colloidal silica is formed in situ as a sol by the reaction of water-soluble or dispersible alkali silicates with a variety of anionic, detergent-forming organic acids, exemplified by fatty acids of from 8 to 12 carbon atoms or alkyl aryl sulfonic acids. The colloidal silica is characterized by an alkaline oxide to SiO2 ratio of from 1:4 to 1:2000 or more.
