Claim 1
Independent Claim
155 words
An adjustable bed comprising, in combination: an elongated base first frame; a second frame generally parallel to and movable relative to said base frame along the length dimension thereof; a third frame pivotally coupled to said second frame, the pivotal axis being perpendicular to the length dimension of said first frame; a fourth frame movable relative to said second frame in a direction parallel to the length dimension of said first frame, coupled to said first frame in such a manner as to prevent substantial movement along the length dimension of said first frame; motion translating means coupling said third frame and fourth frame for causing said third frame to pivot about its pivotal axis as said second frame moves longitudinally relative to said fourth frame; and means for creating longitudinal motion of said second frame relative to said first frame and said fourth frame for causing said third frame to pivot about its axis.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
49 words
The combination as set forth in claim 1 further including means coupled to said second frame for moving said second, third, and fourth frames as a unit toward and away from said first frame, the coupling means between said first and fourth frames being adapted to allow such motion.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
27 words
The combination as set fourth in claim 1 further including a spring frame for supporting a mattress, said third frame being a portion of said spring frame.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
50 words
The combination as set forth in claim 3, wherein said spring frame comprises a head section, being said third frame, a seat section and a leg section, the head and leg sections being pivotally attached to the opposite ends of the seat section, which is secured to said second frame.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
185 words
An adjustable bed comprising in combination: an elongated base first frame; an elongated second frame generally parallel to and movable relative to said base frame along the length dimension thereof and toward and away therefrom; means carried on said second frame for moving said second frame toward and away from said first frame; a third frame pivotally coupled to said secoNd frame, the distal end being pivotable toward and away therefrom, the pivotal axis being perpendicular to the length dimension of said second frame, means coupled to said second frame which moves therewith toward and away from said first frame, but including means preventing movement along said first frame as said second frame is moved relative thereto; motion translating means coupling said third frame and said second frame coupling means for causing said third frame to pivot about its pivotal axis as said second frame moves longitudinally relative to said second frame coupling means; and means for creating longitudinal motion of said second frame relative to said first frame and said second frame coupling means for causing said third frame to pivot about its axis.
Claim 7
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
21 words
The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said means for creating longitudinal motion is attached to said second frame.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
21 words
The combination as set forth in claim 5 wherein said means for creating longitudinal motion is attached to said second frame.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
50 words
The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said second and fourth frames lie in a common horizontal plane and wherein said second frame includes a footboard at one end thereof and wherein said fourth frame includes a headboard, said third frame residing between said footboard and said headboard.
