Volleyball training device

Claim 2

A volleyball training device comprising a standard to be positioned adjacent to a volleyball net; a generally C shaped operating head with its opening on the lower side thereof, said operating head engaging such standard with one generally vertical side coincident with the top of the standard; said lower side including a pair of arm members having spaced end portions in generally horizontal alignment wherein said opening therebetween is less than the diameter of a volleyball and wherein the ends of said arm members will cradle a volleyball with the major portion exposed, where by a volleyball player may strike a volleyball supported in said cradle portion and propel the ball from said cradle.

Claim 3

The combination in accordance with claim 1 wherein the ends of said arms defining a cradle comprise resilient bodies having tapered ends with the lower portions in closer proximity to each other than the upper portions thereby defining a tapered ball cradling opening therebetween.

Claim 4

The combination in accordance with claim 2 wherein said resilient bodies comprise foam plastic whereby the volleyball is lightly held in position for striking with minimum resistance to the direction of delivery of the ball.

Claim 5

The combination in accordance with claim 1 wherein said arms have sufficient rigidity to support a volleyball therebetween and are flexibly responsive to impact by contact with the player.

Claim 6

The combination in accordance with claim 1 wherein one of said pairs of member arms extends generally horizontally from a single vertical support member and the second of said pair of arm members extends around an area through which the players hands may pass and including a return portion extending back generally horizontal in spaced juxtaposition with said first arm member, the ends of said arm members being spaced apart sufficiently to cradle a volleyball and to provide a space for the passage of the players arm therebetween.

Claim 7

The combination in accordance with claim 1 including reinforcement means in the region of the junction of said arms of said operating head portion and said standard.

Claim 8

The combination in accordance with claim 3 wherein said operating head is telescopically adjustable with respect to said standard.

Claim 9

A volleyball training device comprising a standard to be positioned adjacent to a volleyball net; a generally C-shaped operating head with its opening on the lower side thereof, said operating head engaging said standard; a pair of arms outward extending from the standard defining the head, said arms being coplanar and extending outwardly on the same side of said standard; one of said arms is generally linear and the second of said arms is generally C-shaped; said arm members including spaced end portions in generally horizontal alignment wherein said opening therebetween is less than the diameter of a standard volleyball with the major portion exposed, whereby a volleyball player may strike a volleyball supported in said cradle portion and propel the ball from said cradle.

Claim 10

A volleyball training device comprising a standard to be positioned adjacent to a volleyball net; a generally C-shaped operating head with its opening on the lower side thereof, said operating head engaging said standard; a pair of arms outward extending from the standard defining the head, said arms being coplanar and extending outwardly on the same side of said standard; one of said arms is generally linear and the second of said arms is generally C-shaped; said arm members including spaced end portions in generally horizontal alignment wherein said opening therebetween is less than the diameter of a standard volleyball with the major portion exposed, whereby a volleyball player may strike a volleyball supported in said cradle portion and propel the ball from said cradle.
