Abstract
Abstract A system for treating rinse water produced in rinsing metal strapping emerging from an acid pickling tank. The system includes first and second dunk rinse tanks and a treatment tank to which the rinse water is transported from the first rinse tank and reacted with sodium hydroxide to precipitate iron from the rinse water in the form of magnetite. Clarified water is transported to a storage tank and from there recycled to the first and second rise tanks to limit the production of waste from the system. Treatment of the waste rinse water with sodium hydroxide results in the use of lower temperatures, shorter residence time and enlarges the acceptable pH range for the reaction.
