Abstract
Abstract A method of making a circular grooved article, such as a Vpulley, by roll forming in which a portion of a sheet metal blank is subjected to plastic flow while the blank is confined between facing dies, the blank being permitted to turn with respect to the die faces. The feed rate of the forming roller varies in accordance with the resistance encountered.

A method of making a circular grooved member comprising the steps of: providing a metal blank having a disc-like web; confining an inner portion of said web between corresponding annular faces of a pair of dies with an outer annular portion of said web projecting outwardly beyond the annular faces of said dies; rotating said blank in contact with at least one rotating forming roller; feeding said roller toward the axis of rotation of said blank for progressively forming a root and a pair of diverging side walls by means of a regulated feed force permitting the rate of feed of said roller to vary in accordance with the resistance encountered in roll forming said blank.
