Abstract

Abstract A containment structure constructed in accordance with the features of this invention comprises an upstanding walled body which is formed of concrete and which includes an integral generally cylindrically-shaped member and an integral generally hemispherically-shaped closure member. A plurality of elongated prestressing tendons is provided each of which extends continuously throughout the length of the body within the wall of the body between first and second anchor locations which are positioned at a same general longitudinal location. The tendons extend in a helical path through the walls of the cylindrical segment and form an angle with the horizontal of between about 35*-55* and extend through an arc through the hemispherical segment.
