Abstract

Abstract A process is disclosed for the regeneration of sulfur dioxideloaded solid, metal containing acceptor obtained by contacting a sulfur oxide- and oxygen-containing gas mixture with the solid acceptor by contacting the loaded acceptor with a reducing gas containing hydrocarbon and an inert diluent, such as steam, thereby reducing the amount of hydrocarbon deposited on the acceptor during regeneration.
