Abstract

Abstract A method of rapid identification of Gram-negative bacteria by the quantitative and qualitative characterization of the sugars in the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) component of the bacterial cell wall. The invention comprises the procedures of bacterial cultivation, harvesting, LPS extraction, purification, and hydrolysis, and characterization of the sugar components of the LPS by chromatographic analysis.
