Abstract

Abstract Methods for treating or producing original documents to inhibit, if not preclude, the reproduction of such documents by copying processes. The documents so produced favor the visual response of the human eye over the physical response of a copying machine so that the graphical information imprinted on the document background is readily perceptible by the human eye but imperceptible by the sensor and associated processes of a copying machine.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 179 words
A Sheet of material adapted to have graphical information applied thereto which can be detected by the retinas of human eyes having typical spectral responses in the range of substantially 425 to 675 millimicrons, but which cannot be detected by the detectors of copying machines having spectral responses typically in the range of substantially 350 to 600 millimicrons, comprising; a sheet of material at least a portion of which have a reflectance of substantially 4% over the wavelength of substantially 325 millimicrons to substantially 525 millimicrons, and a reflectance which increases from substantially 4% at substantially 525 millimicrons to substantially 7% at 550 and which then increases to substantially 13% at substantially 575 millimicrons, whereby insufficient reflected energy is available from said sheet of material and graphical information thereon to be distinguished by the detectors of typical copying machines at wavelengths to which they are most sensitive whereas sufficient reflected energy is available from said sheet of material and graphical information thereon to be distinguished by the retinas of human eyes at wavelengths to which they are most sensitive.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 179 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 179 words
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 179 words
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 15 words
The sheet of material according to claim 1, wherein said portion is a dark orange.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 31 words
The sheet of material according to claim 2, further comprising graphical information on said sheet of material having an average reflectance closer in value to 7% than 13% at all wavelengths.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
The sheet of material according to claim 3 wherein the reflectance of said graphical information is substantially 5%.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 31 words
The sheet of material according to claim 1 further comprising graphical information on said sheet of material having an average reflectance closer in value to 7% than 13% at all wavelengths.
