Abstract

Abstract A method and apparatus for successively applying an elongated label having an adhesive on one surface, to articles of merchandise intermittently presented thereto by wrapping the ends of the label about each article. The apparatus includes means for sequentially separating the labels from a carrier web, and means for individually delivering the separated labels to a labeling station. Upon a label reaching the labeling station, the operation of the separating and delivering means is automatically terminated, and a label applying means is actuated for folding the leading and trailing ends of the label about an article which has been placed over the medial portion of the label by the operator. Upon removal of the article with the attached label, the separating and delivering means is reactuated to deliver another individual label to the assembly station.
