Abstract

Abstract Apparatus for molding an integral rotor assembly for a dynamoelectric machine comprising two engageable mold sections which define a mold cavity therebetween. A first part of the cavity is in one of said sections and a second part is in the other. The cavity is cylindrically shaped defining inner and outer coaxial peripheral surfaces. Gates and passages conduct molten thermoplastic material to said cavity. The mold sections have engageable parting surfaces that generally define a plane normal to the axis of said cavity. Means produce a magnetic field providing flux lines radially through the portion of said cavity between said inner and outer peripheral surfaces during the molten phase of the plastic in said cavity.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 139 words
Apparatus for molding an integral rotor assembly for a dynamoelectric machine comprising two engageable mold sections which define a mold cavity therebetween, a first part of said cavity being in one of said sections and a second part in the other, said cavity havingh a cylindrically shaped peripheral portion defining inner and outer coaxial peripheral surfaces and an axially extending portion, means for conducting molten thermoplastic material to said cavity, said mold sections having engageable parting surfaces that generally define a plane normal to the axis of said cavity, magnetic means for producing a magnetic field providing unidirectional flux lines radially through the peripheral portion of said cavity between said inner and outer peripheral surfaces during the molten phase of plastic in said cavity, and means for providing a high reluctance path between said axially extending and peripheral portions.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 139 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 57 words
The apparatus of claim 1 in which said mold sections include magnetic materials, said magnetic means being a solenoid positioned within one mold section axially beyond and in coaxial relationship with respect to said cavity whereby flux lines produced thereby will pass radially through the peripheral portion of said cavity, between said inner and outer peripheral surfaces.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 61 words
The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said cavity has a smaller diameter portion extending axially beyond the portion thereof defined by said inner and outer peripheral surfaces, said solenoid being on the side of said cavity opposite from said smaller diameter portion whereby said flux lines tend to pass through said peripheral portion but are shunted past said axially extending portion.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 32 words
The apparatus of claim 3 wherein the radially opposite sides of said peripheral surface portion are positioned in the portion of the flux path of said solenoid having the greatest flux density.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 51 words
The apparatus of claim 4 wherein said cavity further is defined by a disc-like portion having said peripheral portion at the outer perimeter thereof and said axially extending portion centrally thereof, said disc-like portion being generally parallel to said parting surfaces and said inner and outer peripheral surfaces extending normal thereto.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 87 words
The apparatus of claim 5 in which said one mold section is of magentic material And the other mold section includes non-magnetic material, that portion of said other mold section which defines said disc-like portion of said cavity being of said non-magnetic material, said axially extending portion of said cavity being surrounded and separated from said peripheral portion by said non-magnetic material, said one mold section containing that portion of said cavity having said inner and outer peripheral surfaces, said one mold section being of magnetic material.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 67 words
The apparatus of claim 6 in which said other mold section has a plate of magnetic material on the side thereof engageable with said one mold section, said plate providing part of the parting surface of said other mold section and being disposed contiguous to but generally radially outwardly from said peripheral cavity portion to provide a low reluctance path radially outwardly from said periheral cavity portion.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 35 words
The apparatus of claim 6 in which said axially extending portion is in the shape of a gear cavity which projects axially beyond said peripheral portion, said gear cavity being surrounded by said non-magnetic material.
