Abstract

Abstract In a sailball game, a sailball comprises a spherical inner portion having an annular portion extending therefrom to provide an airfoil effect. The annular portion preferably tapers inwardly on both sides so as to provide a V-shaped cross-section. A goal for the sailball game comprises a frontboard and a rim spaced from the frontboard both having cloverleaf-shaped apertures formed therethrough for receiving the sailball with the annular portion disposed either horizontally or vertically. A backboard and net are mounted behind the frontboard for receiving the sailball after it has passed through the aperture in the frontboard. Apparatus is provided for indicating a positive score whenever a sailball passes through the apertures in the rim and the frontboard and into the net, and for indicating a negative score whenever the sailball strikes either the frontboard or the rim without passing through the apertures.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 125 words
A sailball game comprising: a sailball including an inflatable spherical portion and an annular portion extending around the periphery of the spherical portion and serving as an airfoil; and a goal comprising: a substantially vertically disposed frontboard having a substantially vertically disposed scoring aperture formed through it; a substantially vertically disposed scoring rim positioned in front of the frontboard and defining a scoring aperture which is substantially congruent with the scoring aperture in the frontboard; a backboard situated behind the frontboard for arresting the travel of the sailball after it has passed through the scoring apertures of the frontboard of the scoring rim; and a net depending upon the backboard for cooperation therewith to return the sailball after it has passed through the scoring apertures.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 125 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 19 words
The sailball game according to claim 1 wherein the annular portion of the sailball is substantially V-shaped in cross-section.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 82 words
A sailball game comprising: a sailball including an inner spherical portion and an outer annular portion extending the periphery of the spherical portion and serving as an air foil; and a goal including a substantially vertically disposed frontboard containing an aperture whose diameter is at least larger than the diameter of said outer annular portion of said sailball and a means disposed rearwardly said frontboard and not continuous therewith for arresting the flight of said material on passing completely through said aperture.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 82 words
A sailball game comprising: a sailball including an inner spherical portion and an outer annular portion extending the periphery of the spherical portion and serving as an air foil; and a goal including a substantially vertically disposed frontboard containing an aperture whose diameter is at least larger than the diameter of said outer annular portion of said sailball and a means disposed rearwardly said frontboard and not continuous therewith for arresting the flight of said material on passing completely through said aperture.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 30 words
The sailball game of claim 3 wherein the annular portion of the sailball is concentric about the circumference of said spherical portion and characterized by a substantially V-shaped cross section.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 50 words
The sailball game according to claim 3 wherein the spherical portion of the sailball is inflatable having a circumference of about 25 inches; wherein the annular portion of the sailball projects beyond said spherical portion approximately 3 inches; and wherein the overall weight of the sailball is approximately 20 ounces.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 99 words
A sailball game comprising: a sailball including an inner spherical portion and an outer annular portion extending the periphery of the spherical portion and serving as an airfoil; a goal including a substantially vertically disposed frontboard containing an aperture whose diameter is at least larger than the diameter of said outer annular portion of said sailball, a means for arresting the flight of said sailball on passing through said aperture said means being proximately behind said frontboard; and a rim disposed proximately in front of said frontboard and forming an aperture congruent with the aperture formed through said frontboard.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 99 words
A sailball game comprising: a sailball including an inner spherical portion and an outer annular portion extending the periphery of the spherical portion and serving as an airfoil; a goal including a substantially vertically disposed frontboard containing an aperture whose diameter is at least larger than the diameter of said outer annular portion of said sailball, a means for arresting the flight of said sailball on passing through said aperture said means being proximately behind said frontboard; and a rim disposed proximately in front of said frontboard and forming an aperture congruent with the aperture formed through said frontboard.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 53 words
The sailball game of claim 6 wherein said aperture formed through said frontboard and said rim disposed congruent with said aperture are formed with at least one portion dimensioned to facilitate passage of the other periphery of the annular portion of said sailball at least one other portion dimensioned to prohibit said passage.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 65 words
The sailball game of claim 7 wherein said aperture formed through said frontboard and said rim formed congruent therewith is cloverleaf shaped and comprises two spaced apart portions adapted to facilitate passage of the outer periphery of the annular portion of said sailball and two other spaced apart portions adapted to prevent such passage of the outer periphery of the annular portion of said sailball.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 24 words
The sailball game of claim 3 wherein said means for arresting the flight of said sailball includes a backboard and a net depending therefrom.
