Abstract
Abstract Amidomethylene substituted aromatic carbocyclic polymers containing a chemically combined phenylene radical are obtained by interreacting in the presence of an effective amount of a suitable acidic catalyst, a polymer containing a chemically combined phenylene radical and an amidoalkylating agent having the general formula WHERE R is either methyl or CH2 CH- and X is halogen, the hydroxyl radical, or an ester radical. Polymers obtained thereby have improved oil resistance and where the amidoalkylating compound contains the CH2 CH- grouping, such modified polymers can be cured by ultraviolet light, by heat or in the presence of heat and a free radical producing compound to yield crosslinked products.
