Abstract

Abstract Canister cleaner arrangements are provided in which the motor and fan system is resiliently mounted to suppress vibration and noise transmission outwardly of the cleaner by the utilization of upper and lower resilient mounts that sealingly form a ''''sandwich'''' effect around the fan system to thereby isolate a large portion of the noise and vibration produced from the cleaner housing and also to act as a sealing means for the air system of the cleaner. The upper and lower resilient mounts are situated and interrelated with the other cleaner parts so that the overall dimensional effect is a reduced diameter low profile cleaner having a large bag containing volume. A novel air cooling system for the canister cleaner is also described.

A resiliently mounted motor and air moving arrangement for a floor care appliance including; a. a bottom pan for said floor care appliance with floorengaging means situated in the bottom thereof, b. a diffuser and fan structure situated above said bottom pan, c. first resilient means disposed between said bottom pan and said diffuser and fan structure and supported by said bottom pan for providing a mounting affording resiliency therebetween, d. said motor being mounted to and above said diffuser and fan structure and resting thereon, and e. second resilient means mounted with said motor, said second resilient means being disposed between the main part of the housing and said motor for resiliently segregating the main portion of the housing for said floor care appliance from said motor and said diffuser and fan structure, whereby said bottom pan and said main portion of said floor care appliance is isolated from noise and vibration generated by said motor and said air moving arrangement.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 26 words
The resiliently mounted motor and air moving arrangement set out in claim 1 wherein; a. said first resilient means directly and abuttingly engages said bottom pan.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 50 words
The resiliently mounted motor and air moving arrangement set out in claim 1 wherein; a. said floor care appliance includes an intermediate pan disposed immediately above said bottom pan and receiving its support from said bottom pan, and b. said intermediate pan abuttingly and directly engages said first resilient means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 54 words
The resiliently mounted motor and air moving arrangement of claim 1 wherein; a. at least one of said resilient means is generally annular and formed from a series of spaced, solid spheres of resilient material, arranged circumferentially, and b. said solid spheres are integrally connected together by at least one annularly extending connecting means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 75 words
The resiliently mounted motor and air moving arrangement of claim 4 wherein; a. said annularly extending connecting means also extends generally vertically so as to, in effect, form a thin walled cylinder and divide each sphere into vertically attached semispheres, b. said vertical extent of said annularly extending connecting means terminating generally at the upper and lower terminations of said spheres and being flat to thereby form sealing faces for sealing said air moving arrangement.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 76 words
The resiliently mounted motor and air moving arrangement of claim 4 wherein; a. said solid spheres are connected together by a second generally annularly extending connecting means, and b. said one and said second annularly extending connecting means are disposed at right angles to each other so that said spheres are, in effect, divided into quadrants, whereby said annular means, while made of a relatively high durometer material of high durability, exhibits a softened resiliency characteristic.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 154 words
A canister cleaner including; a. a bottom pan means including a floor-engaging means for support of said cleaner, b. a diffuser and fan means disposed above said pan means, c. a motor means mounted with said diffuser and fan means, d. a shell means forming an upwardly open cavity for the reception of a replaceable dirt bag, e. a first resilient means disposed between said diffuser and fan means and said bottom pan for resiliently supporting said diffuser and fan means and motor and vibrationally isolating the same from said bottom pan, and f. a second resilient means mounted between said motor and said shell means for vibrationallly isolating said shell means from sAid motor whereby said first and second resilient means form a sandwich about said diffuser and fan means and motor to reduce noise transmission through the shell means and bottom pan means to the area in which said cleaner is used.
Claim 9
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 53 words
A canister cleaner as set out in claim 7 wherein; a. said first and second resilient means are annular and of differing diameters so that said second resilient means is inset transversely from said first resilient means whereby vibration-induced rocking of said diffuser and fan means and said motor is substantially severely limited.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 94 words
A canister cleaner as set out in claim 7 wherein; a. said bottom pan forms the bottom of the housing for said cleaner and said first resilient means supportedly rests substantially immediately adjacent thereto, b. said diffuser and fan means is supported in abutting engagement with said first resilient means, and c. said motor extends immediately upwardly from said diffuser and fan means and supports said second resilient means at its lower portions whereby said upwardly opening shell means provides a relatively unobstructed, annular dirt bag-receiving volume between its periphery and said motor means.
Claim 12
