Abstract In the synthesis of 3-cyanopyridine from non-heterocyclic starting materials, namely, 2-methyleneglutaronitrile the intermediate 2-bromo-2-bromomethylglutaronitrile is obtained, which intermediate compound is useful as an antibacterial and antifungal agent.
