Abstract
Abstract A halophenol of the formula WHERE X is a halogen atom, R is -O- or -S- and Q is -CO- or SO2-, or an alkali metal salt thereof. These products may be used to make aromatic polymers comprising units of the formula AND COPOLYMERS COMPRISING SUCH UNITS AND OTHER UNITS SUCH AS WHICH ARE OF HIGHER SOFTENING POINT THAN POLYMERS OF THE LATTER UNITS ALONE.
