Abstract
Abstract An acrylic fiber made from a composition comprising acrylonitrile and an epoxide-containing vinyl monomer is herein described wherein the epoxide portion of said monomer is pendant to the polymer chain and thereafter reacted with a polyhydroxyl compound to produce an improved filamentary material. The fiber is made from a polymer which is made by forming an epoxide containing polymer of acrylonitrile and allowing the polymer to undergo an acid catalyzed reaction in a spin bath containing a polyhydroxyl compound such as polyethylene glycol. The novel compositions herein described have enhanced properties.
