Abstract

Abstract A multiple plug device has contact elements on each of two plug parts arranged to define the corners of a polygon, particularly a square. One plug part has a protective collar around the contact elements, which are mounted in a disk, which may be selectively positioned with respect to the disk to align different contact elements of the two plug parts.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 211 words
A multiple connector comprising a first plug part and a second plug part each comprising a respective plurality of contact elements which cooperably engage the other plurality of contact elements when said plug parts are mated, each of said pluralities of contact elements fixed in a pattern defining the corners of a polygon which permits at least two different engagment associations of the pluralities of contact elements, first and second protective collars included in the respective plug parts surrounding the contact elements thereof and dimensioned for telescopic movement of said second protective collar into said first protective collar upon mating of the plug parts, first and second cooperable guide means for the respective plug parts for aligning and guiding said parts, said first guide means rigidly connected with said first plug part, second guide means included in said second collar, said first protective collar being rotatably mounted on said first plug part about an axis of said first plug part extending in the direction of plugging, and means for selectively securing said second protective collar to said second plug part at a number of circumferentially distributed positions, the number of positions determined as at least an integer fraction of the number of possible associations of said pluralities of said contact elements.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 211 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 59 words
A connector according to claim 1, wherein said first protective collar is a hollow cylinder and includes an inwardly directed end flange and a circumferential groove about the inner surface thereof, a disk mounting the respective contact elements is disposed between said flange and said groove and a retaining ring is disposed in said groove to hold said disk.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 22 words
A connector according to claim 2, wherein said first guide means includes a projection extending from said disk both axially and radially.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
A connector according to claim 3, wherein said second protective collar includes means defining a slot for receiving said projection.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 82 words
A connector according to claim 4, wherein said second protective collar includes a second disk mounting the respective contact elements, means defining an inwardly directed edge for receiving said second disk in abutment therewith said second disk including recesses in and distributed about the outer edge thereof, and means for releasably locking the position of said second protective collar with respect to said second disk including at least one stud extending from said second collar into a recess of said second disk.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
A connector according to claim 5, comprising screws for releasably securing said second collar and said second disk.
