Abstract

Abstract A gap sensing circuit for a system which responsive to gap short circuit condition lengthens the off-time and allows a predetermined series of pulses to be applied to the gap. The pulses are of the normal machining pulse on-off time and frequency. The series of pulses are applied and are then followed by a lengthened off-time interval several times the duration of the first series. The system includes a gating and a counter system in which there is included a divide-by-ten stage to provide the predetermined series of pulses responsive to gap short circuit condition. The system further includes a series of gates and inverters which inhibit pulses from being fed during the predetermined relatively long off-time interval. The sensing circuit further includes a field effect transistor for arc sensing. If the gap voltage does not return to the normal gap voltage level within a predetermined time period, the gating system is triggered into operation.
