Abstract

Abstract Composites of plastic materials for filling enclosed spaces are prepared by coating the surface of a shaped core material with a layer of expandable resin particles plus a binder such as asphalt. The composite is then placed within the cavity to be filled and heated whereby the rest of the enclosed space is filled with the core material and the expanded particles and binder. The core material may comprise thermostable expandable cellular material. Alternately, the layer of expandable resin particles with the binder can be placed in enclosed spaces in the absence of the shaped core material and expanded to fill the void.
