Abstract
Abstract A hopper has a device for sensing the flow of material through its bottom opening. The sensing device is substantially balanced about a horizontal axis and forms an inverted V with a paddle portion extending into the path of flow of material discharged through the bottom opening of the hopper. Material passing through the bottom opening strikes the paddle portion causing it to pivot about the horizontal axis. When the hopper is empty, the sensing device returns to the balanced position and actuates means to close the bottom opening.
