Abstract

Abstract Mold, particularly for rigid polyurethane foam articles having finished textured surfaces on all sides thereof comprising a female mold having a recess into which the unreacted and unblown resin system is deposited and a cover for closing the mold together with a release sheet structure disposed therebetween exhibiting sufficient gas porosity to enable complete venting of air displaced by the rising foam in the production of a finished surface thereat and method of molding therewith.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 271 words
Mold for casting foamed urethane plastics material for foam plastics articles having at least one generally flat surface and being fully finished on all sides ccomprising, in combinaTion, a mold box having a generally flat upper surface provided with a recess extending downwardly through said surface to define a generally open and unobstructed aperture in said flat upper surface and a cavity contoured to define the article to be molded and a generally flat lid extending across said aperture for containing the plastics material within said cavity during foaming and rise thereof together with a breathable release sheet extending across said aperture and across said cavity beneath said lid closing said cavity to fully define the article to be molded, said breathable release sheet consisting of a layered structure comprising, in turn, a self-supporting paper support later having sufficient strength and rigidity to be selfsupporting across said aperture without sagging into said cavity or wrinkling during rise of such plastics material and exhibiting sufficient gas porosity to enable complete venting of such cavity through said release sheet outwardly between said mold box and said lid during foaming of urethane plastics material deposited therein in an uncreamed state while precluding exudation of such material therethrough and a release material layer coated to at least the surface thereof toward said mold box to prevent adherence to such foam, so that the gas porosity of said sheet is substantially unencumbered by said release coating, to enable the production of a finished flat surface thereagainst accurately reproducing the texture of said release sheet without flaws or voids caused by trapped air, wrinkles, and the like.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 271 words

Claim 3
Dependent Claim 37 words
Mold defined in claim 1 wherein said paper is textured by a process selected from the group consisting of creping and embossing to provide a textured surface to the formed plastics articles cast thereagainst imitating wood graining.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 36 words
Mold defined in claim 1 wherein said layered structure further comprises a printed image releasably printed on the surface toward the mold box for adhesion and transfer to such foamed plastic for decoration and coloring thereof.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
Mold defined in claim 1 wherein said release layer comprises a plastics material selected from the group consisting of polyolefins and vinyl resins coated with a film of silicone.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 170 words
Breathable release sheet for insertion between a mold box having a molding cavity extending downwardly from a generally flat upper surface and a generally flat lid extending thereacross to enable casting of foam urethane within such cavity to form articles finished on all sides, said sheet consisting of a layered structure comprising a support layer of paper of sufficient strength and rigidity to extend across said cavity without sagging or wrinkling and exhibiting sufficient gas porosity to enable complete venting of gases from such cavity between the mold box and the lid during foaming of urethane plastics materials deposited within the cavity while precluding exudation of such urethane plastics material therethrough and a release material coated on said paper for preventing adherence of such foam to said paper, so that the gas porosity of said sheet is unencumbered to enable the rising urethane foam to completely fill the cavity without voids caused by trapped air to form objects having at least one generally flat surface and finished on all sides.
Claim 7
