Abstract

Abstract A cooking tray is disclosed in which a carrier of tempered glass is mounted on a support surface between the support surface and the heating element. The carrier is insulated to protect it from the heat of the heating element by thermal sealing means comprising in one embodiment an intermediate ring surrounding the heating element having a layer of insulation attached to the intermediate ring. Moisture seals are also provided between the carrier and the heating element to prevent moisture from entering between the carrier and the heating element. Various alternative embodiments illustrating the concept of utilizing the carrier of tempered glass with an intermediate ring, heat insulation and moisture sealing means to permit the combination of various heating elements with a carrier of tempered glass are disclosed.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 125 words
A cooking tray comprising a cooking unit having a cooking plate and at least one electrical heating element attached to said cooking plate to heat said cooking plate, a carrier member of tempered glass disposed in spaced relationship below said cooking unit, said carrier having at least one opening adapted to permit the connection of the cooking unit to the carrier, an intermediate ring disposed between the cooking unit and the carrier for sealing the area between the cooking unit and the carrier and for thermally insulating the carrier from the cooking unit, and fastening means mounted on the bottom side of the carrier member and passing through the opening in the carrier member to detachably fasten together the carrier member and the cooking unit.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 125 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 20 words
A cooking tray in accordance with claim 1 wherein the cooking unit is mounted within an opening in said carrier.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 47 words
A cooking tray in accordance with claim 1 in which the intermediate ring includes an intermediate layer member having high heat conductivity mounted on the upper surface of the carrier to relieve mechanical stresses in the carrier formed by temperature gradients during operation of the cooking unit.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 24 words
A cooking tray in accordance with claim 3 further comprising an insulating layer disposed adjacent to the intermediate layer to provide additional thermal insulation.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 17 words
A cooking tray in accordance with claim 4 whErein the intermediate layer is made of soft aluminum.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 54 words
A cooking tray in accordance with claim 1 wherein the intermediate ring is a sealing ring having low thermal conductivity disposed around the circumference of the cooking unit between the cooking unit and the carrier, said intermediate ring having seals attached thereto to prevent moisture from entering between said carrier and said heating element.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 24 words
A cooking tray in accordance with claim 6 wherein the seals are mounted below the intermediate ring between the carrier and the intermediate ring.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 16 words
A cooking tray in accordance with claim 7 wherein the intermediate ring is made of metal.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 38 words
A cooking tray in accordance with claim 1 further comprising a pressure means attached to the fastening means, said pressure means connecting the carrier to the fastening means and adapted to increase the clamping pressure on the carrier.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 38 words
A cooking tray in accordance with claim 9 wherein the pressure means comprises a pressure plate having a layer of thermal insulation mounted to the upper surface of the pressure plate in a facing relationship to the carrier.
