Abstract
Abstract In the absorption of carbon-14 dioxide gas in a liquid alkaline absorbent preparatory to liquid scintillation counting of the carbon-14 in a scintillation mixture including an aromatic hydrocarbon, the absorbent is a primary alkoxy alkylamine. Enhanced solubility of the carbon-14 dioxide-alkoxy alkylamine carbamate permits the scintillation mixture to be prepared without the hitherto indispensable use of an alcohol, which had caused undesirable chemical quench effects.
