Abstract An electrostatic copying machine having an endless belt mounted for movement around a closed path has a cylindrical roller rotatably mounted immediately adjacent the surface of the belt. Because it is important that the roller be capable of being removed and precisely replaced in its original position without contacting the surface of the belt, the roller is mounted so that it can be released and guided out of the machine, and then guided back into its original mounted position where it is again secured. A shaft extends through the roller, the shaft having a tapered portion on one end of the roller, the other end being supported by a removably mounted bracket. By removing the bracket, the roller is released, and can then be guided by the tapered portion into a receptacle beneath the roller. The roller and receptacle are then guided away from the belt through a trough which supports the receptacle. When replacing the roller the procedure is reversed, the brackets being precisely relocated via guide pins, thus precisely relocating the roller in its original mounted position.
The combination of a printing machine having means defining a photoconductive surface, with a roller, shaft means for rotatably mounting the roller at a precise location immediately adjacent to but spaced from the surface, means including a removably mounted bracket for releasably supporting the shaft means at one end of the roller, a receptacle for receiving the roller when released, means for guiding the roller into the receptacle after the bracket is removed and the roller is released, means for guiding the receptacle with the roller therein away from the surface so that the roller can be removed, and a plurality of guide pins for precisely relocating the bracket when replacing the roller in the machine.
