Abstract

Abstract Fibers and filaments of linear high molecular weight polyesters and copolyesters having a latent three-dimensional crimp are produced by passing the spun filaments after their exit from the spinneret, over a rotating cooled cylinder at a temperature at which they do no longer stick on to the cylinder but are not fully cooled down. The cylinder has a temperature in the range of from 15* to 90*C and rotates at a circumferential speed U of from Vf/50 to Vf-Vf/90, Vf being the draw off speed of the filaments. The filaments are in contact with a surface section of the cylinder the length of which is determined by a contact angle of 10* to 150*.
