Abstract IMINO-HALIDES OF 3-AMIDO-2-HALO-1-(1''-PROTECTED CARBOXY-2''-METHYL-1''-PROPENYL)-4-AZETIDINONES, AND A PROCESS FOR PREPARING BICYCLIC THIAZOLINE AZETIDINONES BY REACTING THE ABOVE IMINO-HALIDES WITH HYDROGEN SULFIDE OR A THIOALKANOATE ION IN THE PRESENCE OF A BASE IN AN APROTIC SOLVENT. THE THIAZOLINE AZETIDINONE COMPOUNDS ARE USEFUL IN PROCESSES FOR MAKING AMIDO-THIAZOLE COMPOUNDS WHICH ARE USEFUL AS ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL AGENTS.
