Abstract THE PRESENT INVENTION IS CONCERNED WITH 2-METHYL-5NITRO-1-(2-PHENYLTHIOETHYL)IMIDAZOLES. THESE COMPOUNDS ARE PREPARED BY THE CONDENSATION OF SUBSTITUTED THIOPHENOLS WITH 1-(2-CHLOROETHYL)-5-NITRO -2-METHYLIMIDAZOLE IN THE PRESENCE OF BASE IN A POLAR SOLVENT. THE COMPOUNDS OF THIS INVENTION ARE ANTI-PROTOZOAL AGENTS.
