Abstract

Abstract A method for producing in moulds plastic containers having at least one part of the lateral walls in the form of a reinforcing sheet. This method is particular in that in association with each female mould a sheet of thermoplastic material is advanced in a pre-determined path adjacent the open end of the female mould held in a shaping position. A loop is prepared from a sheet of reinforcing material at a location spaced from the path of the thermoplastic material. The mould is moved from the shaping position into alignment with the reinforcing loop, the reinforcing loop is introduced into the mould. The mould is moved into the shaping position with the reinforcing loop retained therein. The sheet of thermoplastic material within the reinforcing loop is expanded to conform with the interior surface thereof.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 153 words
A method of producing containers with composite walls, comprising the steps of advancing a sheet of thermoplastic material in a predetermined path; positioning a female mould in a shaping position so that an open end of the mould cavity is located adjacent and oriented substantially parallel to said path; preparing a loop from a sheet of reinforcing material at a location spaced from said path of said thermoplastic material; moving said mould from said shaping position towards said location and to an inserting position in which said open end is axially aligned with said reinforcing loop; introducing said reinforcing loop axially into said mould cavity through said open end thereof; returning said mould, with the reinforcing loop accommodated therein, to said shaping position in which said open end extends substantially parallel to said path; and expanding said sheet of thermoplastic material within said reinforcing loop into conforming engagement with an interior surface thereof.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
The method according to claim 1 wherein said sheet of thermoplastic material is preformed by means of a punch and finally shaped by pressurized fluid.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 19 words
The method according to claim 1, wherein said sheets of thermoplastic and reinforcing material are supplied from continuous webs.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 17 words
The method according to claim 3, wherein said webs of thermoplastic and reinforcing material are intermittently advanced.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 196 words
In a method of producing containers with reinforced walls from a continuous web of thermoplastic material advanced in a predetermined path and a loop of reinforcing material wherein said loop is placed into the cavity of a female mould and said thermoplastic is expanded within said mold cavity, the steps of forming said loop of reinforcing material at a first location spaced from said predetermined path of said web of thermoplastic material; positioning said female mould in a shaping position so that the open end of said mould cavity is located adjacent to and oriented substantially parallel to said predetermineD path; aligning the open end of said female mould cavity axially with said preformed loop at said first location; introducing said loop axially through said open end into said female mould cavity; moving said female mould from said first location to a second location in which it is adjacent to said web of thermoplastic material and said open end of said female mould cavity faces said web; and introducing said thermoplastic material of said web into said reinforcing loop located in said mould and expanding it into conforming engagement with the interior surface of said loop.
