Abstract

Abstract The system of the invention is designed for treating liquid which may comprise as one instance means for cooling liquid. Such is accomplished by a novel cooling tank. The system has particular application in Diesel engines and also may be used as cooling systems for the liquid used in cooling machine tools. The system may include a meter arranged to measure consumption of fuel, particularly in the Diesel system. Where the system is used with Diesel engines and a meter is used, a by-pass is provided around the meter which includes a valve so that the by-pass can be used when it is desired that the flow be not measured.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 137 words
A fuel treating system for engines of the type having a fuel mixing device, a fuel tank, a fuel line extending between the fuel tank and the fuel mixing device, the fuel mixing device being of the type which discharges unburned fuel, a fuel return line extending from the fuel mixing device to return the unburned fuel, said fuel treating system comprising a. a cooling tank, b. means defining inlet means in said cooling tank arranged to be connected to said fuel return line whereby fuel deposited in said tank is cooled, c. and means defining outlet means in said cooling tank arranged to be connected to one of said fuel return line and said fuel line, d. said inlet means allowing free return flow of unburned fuel into said cooling tank when said engine is running.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 137 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 135 words
A fuel system in combination with a Diesel engine comprising a. a fuel tank in said system, b. a fuel mixing device in the engine, c. a fuel line connected between the fuel tank and the fuel mixing device for providing communication therebetween, d. the fuel mixing device being of the type which discharges unburned fuel when the engine is running, e. a fuel return line connected between said fuel mixing device and said fuel line returning the unburned fuel when the engine is running back into the fuel mixing device together with fuel from the fuel tank, f. and cooling means connected into one of said fuel line and fuel return line for lowering the temperature of returning fuel as it flows with fuel from the fuel tank back into the fuel mixing device.
Claim 4
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
The fuel system of claim 2 wherein said cooling means comprises a cooling tank having an inlet for receiving returning fuel and an outlet for returning fuel to the engine.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 20 words
The fuel system of claim 3 wherein said cooling tank has projecting fins to lower the temperature of fuel therein.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 28 words
The fuel system of claim 3 wherein said cooling tank has cooling fins projecting from both its inner and outer surfaces to lower the temperature of fuel therein.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 42 words
The fuel system of claim 3 wherein the outlet from said tank is arranged to be connected into said fuel line whereby the fuel fed to the engine comprises an admixture of fuel from the fuel tank and from the cooling tank.
