Abstract

Abstract A braking circuit is provided for squirrel-cage induction motors supplied from a variable frequency inverter to obtain increased braking torque when the motor is used for dynamic or regenerative braking, as in traction drives. This is accomplished by connecting resistive means in series relation with the motor windings to cause a voltage rise across the windings when the motor is driven as a generator. Control means are also provided for removing the resistive means from the circuit during motoring operation, and for controlling the effective value of resistance during braking to control the braking torque.
