Abstract CERTAIN HALOGEN AROMATIC COMPOUNDS ARE UTILIZED AS POLYMERIZATION INITATORS OR ACTIVATORS WITH ALKALINE CATALYSTS IN THE ANIONIC POLYMERIZATION OF LACTAM MONOMERS TO PROVIDE LONG POT LIFE, A RAPID POLYMERIZATION AND NOVEL POLYMERS. THE INITIATORS ARE COMPOUNDS CONTAINING AT LEAST ONE CARBOCYCLIC AROMATIC RING SUBSTITUTED WITH AT LEAST ONE HALOGEN ATOM WHICH HAS BEEN ACTIVATED TOWARDS NUCLEOPHILIC SUBSTITUTION.
