Abstract THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO A DUAL ELECTROLYTE SYSTEM UTILIZING A DIAPHRAGM ELECTROLYTIC CELL. THE ANOLYTE AND CATHOLYTE, CONTAINING AQUEOUS HCL AND A POLYVALENT REDUCIBLE METAL CHLORIDE, ARE PROCESSED AND RECYCLED SEPARATELY. THE SYSTEM OF THE PRESENT INVENTION PRODUCES HIGH PURITY CL2 AT HIGHER THAN CONVENTIONAL CURRENT EFFICIENCIES.
