Abstract SILVER CATALYSTS USEFUL FOR THE PRODUCTION OF EHYLENE OXIDE BY THE OXIDATION OF ETHYLENE WITH OXYGEN OR AN OXYGEN CONTAINING GAS ARE PRODUCED BY A PROCESS IN WHICH A POROUS SUPPORT MATERIAL IS IMPREGNATED WITH A SUSPENSION OF SILVER OXIDE IN AN AQUEOUS SLUTION OF A SILVER SALT OF AN ORGANIC ACID WHEREIN THE MOLAR RATIO OF SILVER OXIDE TO DISSOLVED SILVER SALT IS ABOUT 1.86:1 TO 1:1.86 (35-65 MOLAR PERCENT SILVER OXIDE BASED ON COMBINED SILVER OXIDE AND SILVER SALT) AND THE IMPREGNATED SUPPORT IS THEN HEATED TO 160-230*C.
