Abstract

Abstract A locking device for locking a drawer of a table, a door in furniture, or the like. A housing is provided which has a longitudinal hole and a transverse bore connected with the lower portion of the longitudinal hole. A male member is slidably inserted in the longitudinal hole with a spring inwardly biasing the male member. The hole can extend on the other side of the bore and a second male member and spring can be provided therein. A sliding member is slidably housed in the transverse bore and is engaged with said male member or members in a manner such that when the sliding member is pushed in the outer portion of the male member or members are caused to project from the opening of the longitudinal hole against the pressure of the spring or springs in an engaged position, and when the sliding member is withdrawn the male member or members are automatically moved in a disengaged position by the pressure of the spring. A key is provided for pushing and withdrawing the sliding member.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 235 words
A locking device comprising: a housing having a longitudinal hole therethrough at least one end of which is open and a transverse bore connected with the longitudinal hole; at least one male member slidably positioned in the longitudinal hole between the transverse bore and an open end of the hole and a spring engaged therewith and biasing the male member into the hole and toward the position where the transverse bore joins the hole; a sliding member slidably positioned in the transverse bore and engaged with said male member for sliding the male member outwardly in the longitudinal bore against the action of the spring when the sliding member is pushed toward said hole so that the outer portion of the male member projects from the opening of the longitudinal hole, and for allowing the male member to move automatically inwardly into the hole under the action of the spring when the sliding member is withdrawn; said sliding member and male member having thereon opposed projection and recess means engageable with each other when said sliding member is pushed fully into said bore and said male member projects out of said hole; and a key removably positioned in said transverse bore and detachably engaged with said sliding member for pushing the sliding member into said bore and withdrawing said sliding member with a force sufficient to overcome the engagement of said projection and recess means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 235 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 77 words
A locking device as claimed in claim 1 wherein said sliding member is non-rotatably slidable in said transverse bore and said key has a forward pushing surface engageable with said sliding member to push the sliding member, one of the key and the sliding member having a pair of spiral slits therein and the other having opposite projections thereon removably engaged in the slits, thereby making possible withdrawal of the sliding member by rotation of the key.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 31 words
A locking device as claimed in claim 2 wherein said key has a hollow cylindrical stem in which said slits are formed and the opposite projections are on the sliding member.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 25 words
A locking device as claimed in claim 1 in which said longitudInal hole has only one end open and has only one male member therein.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 111 words
A locking device as claimed in claim 1 in which said longitudinal bore has both ends open, and said transverse bore is connected intermediate the ends, and there are two male members one slidably positioned between the transverse bore and each end of the longitudinal hole and each having a spring engaged therewith, and said sliding member engages both said male members for sliding them in opposite directions outwardly through the opposite ends of said longitudinal bore when the sliding member is pushed toward said hole and allowing the male members to move automatically back into the longitudinal bore under the action of the springs when the sliding member is withdrawn.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 38 words
A locking device as claimed in claim 5 in which said male members each have an extension on the outer end thereof, and means engaged with said extensions for guiding said extensions during movement of said male members.
