Abstract
Abstract A packing for fluid-tightly sealing movable elements of pumps, valves, and the like. The packing comprises an inner Teflon-(a trade mark hereinafter referred to as TFE) containing core and an outer carbon-containing jacket surrounding the core. This core may be made of TFE fiber or of a TFE-impregnated packing material such as asbestos or fiberglass, while the outer jacket can be composed of graphite filament either wrapped or braided around the core.
