Abstract
Abstract DURABLE-PRESS CELLULOSIC FABRICS HAVE BEEN PREPARED IN A PROCESS WHICH SIMULTANEOUSLY RENDERS THEM RESPONSIVE TO BASIC DYES. IN A TWO-PHASE PROCESS THE CELLULOSIC COMPONENT IS CROSSLINKED USING A CROSSLINKING AGENT AND AN ALPHA-HYDROXY CARBOXYLIC ACID IN THE FIRST PHASE (THE CARBOXYLIC ACIDS SERVING THE DUAL PURPOSE OF CATALYST AND REACTIVE ADDITIVE), THUS PRODUCING A CROSSLINKED CELLULOSIC FABRIC WITH PENDANT CARBOXYLIC GROUPS. IN THE SECOND PHASE, A BASIC DYE IS SELECTIVELY ABSORBED BY THE CHEMICALLY MODIFIED CELLULOSIC TEXTILE, DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF THE CRABOXYLIC GROUPS.
