Abstract
Abstract In a contact process for transforming sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide, between the contact stages there is provided an interstage absorber for removing sulfur trioxide for the gases emerging from a previous stage. The gases are passed by a venturi system in intimate contact with sulfuric acid into a settling chamber in which sulfuric acid is collected in the sump and then, by another gas/liquid contactor or reagitator, into a further settling chamber with an outlet at its upper end.
