Abstract A PROCESS IS DISCRIBED FOR CONVERTING UNSATURATED VEGETABLE OIL MATERIAL WITHOUT ISOMERIZATION INTO HIGH YIELDS OF FORMYL PRODUCTS WHICH CAN BE SUBSEQUENTLY REDUCED TO THE CORRESPONDING HYDROXYMETHYL PRODUCTS OR OXIDIZED TO THE CORRESPONDING CARBOXY PRODUCTS. THE CONVERSION IS ACCOMPLISHED BY REACTING VEGETABLE OIL MATERIAL WITH HYDROGEN AND CARBON MONOXIDE IN THE PRESENCE OF A HIGHLY SELECTIVE CATALYST SYSTEM.
