Abstract
Abstract Catalytic conversion of petroleum feedstocks, such as the cracking of a gas oil in a vertical transport reactor, is improved by effecting rapid separation of catalyst from reactor effluent and re-generating catalyst in a multi-stage fluid-bed system. A higher yield of desirable petroleum products and a lower carbon level on spent catalyst are realized. Partial regeneration of spent catalyst is effected in a first dilutephase regeneration state, permitting subsequent use of a high regeneration temperature in order to reach an acceptably low carbon level on regenerated catalyst without harm to sensitive con-version catalysts.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
72 words
The apparatus of claim 1 additionally comprising: a. a grid-type means, disposed horizontally across the cross-section of the vertical cylindrical vessel below the dip leg of the cyclone-type means and at a level below the middle of the vessel but substantially above the bottom thereof; and b. a transfer means, located centrally of and connected to the grid-type means, the transfer means extending downwardly into a bottom section of the cylindrical vessel.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
193 words
In a fluid-bed catalytic cracking system, comprising in combination an elongated vertical fluidized-bed reactor, a spent catalyst stripper and a multi-stage catalyst regenerator, apparatus for separating spent catalyst particles rapidly from hydrocarbon vapors in the reactor effluent within the spent catalyst stripper vessel, comprising: a. a vertical cylindrical vessel, having a top and a bottom; b. an inlet means, disposed substantially horizontally, extending from the vertical fluidized-bed reactor and entering an upper section of the vertical cylindrical vessel; c. a cyclone-type means, connected to the inlet means and contained within the vertical cylindrical vessel, the cyclone-type means having a dip leg depending therefrom into a lower spent catalyst stripper section of the vessel; said cyclone-type means including a flared receiving throat having a greater cross-sectional area than the cross-sectional area of the inlet means, said receiving throat being disposed about said inlet means to provide an annulus described by said receiving throat and said inlet means; d. a catalyst withdrawal means extending downwardly through the bottom of the vertical cylindrical vessel; and e. a vapor exit means, connected to the cyclone-type means and extending therefrom through the top of the vertical cylindrical vessel.
