Abstract A blow molding apparatus for forming containers from organic plastic material wherein the container is formed with an expanded radially extending wall at the finish of the container so that the flash and moile material can be removed by a die cut or blanking operation of the apparatus.

The combination of a plastic container and a closure wherein the container has externally positioned threads (13) on the finish area (12) adjacent the opening of the container, a radially inwardly extending wall (46) attached to said finish area, a throat area (44) formed at the most radially inward extent of said inwardly extending wall, a radially outwardly extending top portion (34) cantilevered from said throat area, the free edge (42) of said top portion having a radial extent no greater than the finish area that contains the externally positioned threads, a closure for engagement with said container, said closure having a downwardly depending skirt with threads positioned interiorly thereon for coacting with the threads of the container, an annular reentrant section (45) positioned on the interior of the closure radially inward from the threads for accommodating in a state of compression the container''s entire radially extending wall (46) and the entire radially outwardly extending top portion (34) as they are folded into parallel contacting relationship by the compressive force resulting from the advancement of the closure on the container.

The combination of a plastic container and closure as claimed in claim 1 wherein the reentrant section (45) has a depth of approximately twice the thickness of the container wall thickness thereby producing an essentially planar surface on the top interior of the closure container combination when the closure is completely installed.
